There are several ways to take a screenshot on a Mac:
- To capture the entire screen:
- Press Command + Shift + 3.
- The screenshot will be saved as a file on the desktop. The file name will start with “Screenshot” followed by the date and time that the screenshot was taken.
- To capture a portion of the screen:
- Press Command + Shift + 4.
- The cursor will change to a crosshair pointer.
- Drag the crosshair pointer to select the area that you want to capture.
- To move the selection, press and hold Space bar while dragging.
- To cancel the selection, press the Escape (esc) key.
- To take the screenshot, release the mouse or trackpad button.
- To capture a window:
- Press Command + Shift + 4.
- The cursor will change to a crosshair pointer.
- Press the Space bar. The cursor will change to a camera icon.
- Move the camera icon over the window that you want to capture. The window will be highlighted.
- To cancel the selection, press the Escape (esc) key.
- To take the screenshot, click the mouse or trackpad.
- To capture a menu:
- Press Command + Shift + 4.
- The cursor will change to a crosshair pointer.
- Press the Space bar. The cursor will change to a camera icon.
- Move the camera icon over the menu. The menu will be highlighted.
- To cancel the selection, press the Escape (esc) key.
- To take the screenshot, click the mouse or trackpad.
